A programme telling the story of Ursula and Ralph’s relationship told through Ralph’s songs, settings of Ursula’s poetry by Roderick Williams (a London Song Festival commission premiered at this concert in October), Jonathan Dove and others, and Ursula and Ralph’s own words taken from his letters and her biography of him and other sources.

Paul Laurence Dunbar & Samuel Coleridge-Taylor concert

Sung by the Gweneth Ann Rand and Ronald Samm, with Michael Harper speaking, and Nigel Foster playing. This concert includes all of Coleridge-Taylor’s African Romances, and other settings of Dunbar’s poetry by Florence Price (including her setting of the famous poem “I know what the caged bird feels”), William Grant Still, Betty Jackson King and other composers, and the premiere of “We wear the mask”, specially written for this concert by Robert Hugill.
